I was asked to concept and create a logo for an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion group within Banfield called "Next Gen". Naturally, the Star Trek logo came up, and the idea of a space theme was one I very much liked. Growing up I had a framed picture of planet earth, with all the Apollo Mission patches around it and spent many vacations riding Spaceship Earth at Epcot Center.
That was all the inspiration I needed as I created these designs. An initial sketch was sent over to get approval on the direction and from there, a few rounds of revisions where the logo was progressively simplified and cleaned up. While I love some of the earlier, space ship / futuristic versions, I think for the EID group, the arrived at, simplified version works best.
